Lounging in Paradise

“I got married on the 17th November 2012 in Bora Bora, Tahiti. I decided early on that I wanted a small and intimate wedding so a destination wedding seemed like the perfect option for me. We were joined by our immediate families and a close friend. The day was absolutely perfect with a stunning backdrop. Despite having planned the wedding without having seen the place everything went exactly to plan thanks to my remarkable wedding planner. Getting ready for the ceremony with my sister was a very special time for us and very exciting. It was great having the Lilian robe to wear . It was so light and comfortable even in the tropical heat. It also looked great. The robe was one of the first items I purchased for the wedding after I saw it on Style me Pretty. I was initially concerned I would not be able to have it posted to Australia but Sara was great and sorted it all out right away. The Lilian robe was also great during the honeymoon to throw over the bikini to keep the sun off and is so comfortable it will get a lot of use for years to come”

{Giveaway Winner} Alyssa Perri

Congratulations to Alyssa Perri, the winner of a Lilan robe from our contest with Style Me Pretty, NYC! I couldn’t wait to let Alyssa know that she had won the robe, but I was even more excited to hear the story behind her relationship and engagement. Read her story below and check out the adorable photos.

“My fiancé, Ed Leach, and I have been best friends for 10 years and have been dating for about 5 years. Being such great friends for so long before we started dating, really laid an amazing foundation for our relationship.
Our favorite place to be is at the beach. Ed proposed to me during sunset on the beach in Cape May, NJ. He had the ring for an entire year and I had no idea!! Following suit with our love for the beach, we had our engagement pictures taken in Long Beach Island, NJ, and we will also be getting married there in September 2013.”

{One Night in Ottawa} A Bridesmaids Story

I was surprised and delighted to find an email filled with photos, from a Canadian bride who I had worked with a few months back. When Ashley first wrote to me, she told me that she was getting married in Ottawa and asked if I knew how much the tax and customs charges would be. I had shipped robes to Canada before, but not for an entire wedding party. So, I went down to the post office to find out and they told me that they didn’t know and that it was something that Ashley needed to find out on the Canadian end. I don’t like “my” brides doing any extra work, but I let Ashley know the deal. She ended up being so exited about the robes that she said she would just go for it and pay whatever the extra taxes were going to be and that she would report back (which she did).

I have never been to Ottawa and to be (embarrassingly) honest, I wasn’t sure where exactly, in Canada, it was located. So, I ended up learning a lot in this particular situation and I was excited when it all worked out. It was fun to work with Ashley and her photos show that it was all well worth it.

Ashley got married at the National Gallery of Canada, on June 9th 2012. I thought it was really cute and different that she wore the same robe as her bridesmaids, instead of going with the traditional white robe– like the Lilian or the Bettina.

I normally reserve these types of photos for our Real Weddings Blog, but I wanted to show all of the photos, instead of just one.

{Print Spotlight} Lara Cameron

I can’t remember how I discovered Lara Cameron’s prints, but I do know that I fell in love with them immediately. As someone who is drawn to textiles, art, and motifs with a Japanese influence, these prints really grabbed me. Lara Cameron & Tegan Rose, design and screen print all of their textiles by hand in an ethical and sustainable manner in their Melbourne, Australia studio called Ink and Spindle. Like me, they are inspired by nature and want to make sure that their prints stand the test of time, rather than being trendy in the moment. I’m obsessed!!

When I saw Lara’s “bonsai print,” I knew that I had to have it! After some careful negotiations, I was able to buy this print from her, for use in the silk trims for Doie. I’ve since reproduced it in several colors for the Lilian, Trixie, Millie, Elena, Gemma, Cosette, and Josie robes.

The Lilian is our most popular selling robe for brides and bridesmaids. The bonsai print in sliver with white is very “wedding,” without being too “bridal,” if that makes sense. Below is a photo from one of our photoshoots showing the bride in the Lilian robe and some bridesmaids sporting different colored robes, but all with the bonsai print.
